On Creativity and Creative Tuesdays!

Artists often wish every day could be a creative day. But creativity doesn’t always mean sitting with paint or clay — it’s a way of seeing and shaping the world. Still, when the mind is cluttered with stress, worries, or exhaustion, it leaves little space for imagination to flourish.

I’ve lived through this. For months I neglected the part of me that loves collage, sewing, and painting because I was buried under stress, overwhelm, emotional weight, and the nonstop production of ceramics. I slipped into survival mode — a place where imagination shuts down.

What helped me? Journaling, meditation, and small creative acts. Even when I couldn’t return to big projects, I found comfort in writing tiny poems or simply showing up in my studio to paint a plate or a mug with no plan. Those small steps restored my energy and reminded me that creativity often reshapes itself when life feels heavy.

Recently, I even learned a hard lesson while producing my calendars. A printing issue cost me sales and sleep, but instead of quitting, I fixed the files, relaunched, and kept moving forward. Creativity, I realized, isn’t about avoiding mistakes — it’s about learning and finding the next step.

Here are a few lessons I’m carrying with me:

  1. A busy mind leaves no space for creativity.

  2. Life’s problems often push imagination to the back row.

  3. A blocked mind isn’t empty — it’s overcrowded.

  4. Small acts can open the door back to creativity.

  5. Struggles can become inspiration for new ideas.

The truth is: creativity doesn’t disappear. It waits for silence, for space, and for us to show up — even if just with one brushstroke, one poem, or one small act. When I decide to ask myself: What is the next step I found the Rainbow art that I made a few years ago with a poem inside for my granddaughters and it inspired me.

As soon as the mugs and plates are fired, I'll share them with you!

Have a creative and stress free week!

With love,

Elizabeth Claire
